"Surface is the first commercially available surface computer from Microsoft Corp. It turns an ordinary tabletop into a vibrant, interactive surface. The product provides effortless interaction with digital content through natural gestures, touch and physical objects. In essence, it’s a surface that comes to life for exploring, learning, sharing, creating, buying and much more. Soon to be available in restaurants, hotels, retail and public entertainment venues, this experience will transform the way people shop, dine, entertain and live."
Woah.
And yeah, I know there'll be some critque out there...seeing as Surface is only coming out in the winter of 2007 and won't be (initially) available to the public...but still - it's a cool idea.
Ya. V. cool.
ReplyDeleteI agree Jess. A nice idea but the 10,000 pound price tag will keep me at bay, sadly!
ReplyDeleteNeat eh. Must admit that I didn't realise that the iphone is a multi-touch device as well.
ReplyDeleteThe futurologist in me says that this is likely to be an intermediate technology though those little cube things really did blow me away. Reason I think it's intermediate is that you have to sit over it and your hand's in the way. It will have some niche uses but of course you won't be able to take it into the bath with you because all the bubbles will get on the screen...
Seriously, I suspect that Nintendo Wii is more likely to be a model for our interactions; a handheld/worn device which connects remotely to one or more display devices via some sort of hub. For example, someone's working on a "mouse ring" http://tinyurl.com/ytq6jh
Bruce
Bruce - intermediate technology? Possibly though 10grand is a lot for intermediate isn't in. Besides the *bath* problem...what about greasy fingerprints? I know my DS Lite needs regular polishing...but Surface is quite a bit bigger...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip on the mouse ring...more great inventions!
